Thoughts
It was entertaining enough.
I'm glad the "Men in Tights" song was still as hilarious as I recalled. The battle between Robin Hood and Little John on the bridge also made me laugh out loud again. Elwes was spot on as leading man in the madness, channeling Westley and old school Errol Flynn. As a Star Trek fan, I had totally forgotten Sir Patrick Stewart's cameo. Dom DeLuise's Marlon Brando impression was very funny too. And there was an undiscovered Dave Chappelle.
As expected, it was full of typical Brooks gags, even fun shout out to Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, most of which I laughed. But much like his other later works, it lacked the bite and inspired laughs of his early masterpieces. Some jokes were very dated, like rapping minstrels, White Men Can't Jump and Kevin Costner jokes.
Nearly two decades later, I'm glad to know some of Robin Hood: Men in Tights remained utterly funny. Keyword: some.
