Fans of satire.
Thoughts
This was one of most original and best films of the year. Two reasons to watch this film. First was its sharpness in poking fun of movie and fairy tale cliches. The second reason was Eddie Murphy's hilarious, scene-stealing performance as a talking donkey. I also enjoy the character of Shrek, who was ogre-like yet lovable.
One minor thing that bugged me was that Mike Myers voiced Shrek too similarly to Fat Bastard from 'Austin Powers 2'. However, a bigger issue for me was dark comedy in a family film. I liked the heart and moral story, but I especially enjoyed the satire and dark stuff. Yet, these two elements do not compliment each other in a film. I felt a bit uncomfortable to be surrounded by little children in the theater and laughing at some of the adult jokes.
What I would change
I wished it ditched the family aspect and went all out with the satire.
