Premise
Three high school seniors run into all sorts of weird trouble while trying to get booze for a party.
Who should watch
Fans of Judd Apatow films.
Thoughts
There were some absolutely hilarious moments in this funny and raunchy film. The adventures of McLovin was worth the price of admission. I also liked the appropriate R-rated dialogue. The greatest scene might be when a character encounters an unexpected bodily fluid while dancing. I fear everytime I bump and grind, I will always have that image in my head.
This had a similar plot to 'American Pie', but I liked 'Superbad' better. The moral of the story of 'life is more than just trying to get laid before leaving high school' was handled more believably and delivered the right message.
Since they name-dropped '40 Year Old Virgin' and 'Knocked Up' in the marketing, it was impossible not to compare to those films, and clearly it was not up to par with them. One of the flaws was the implausible slapstick plot. But it was not a big deal. While what happened to the characters were unrealistic, the characters in the film were realistic. Because of that, it was easy to laugh at them and with them. A lot.
What I would change
Even though this was not directed by Apatow, it still had the same flaw as his directed films. The film was too long and could have used some editing to reduce the slower, less funnier moments.
