Thoughts
From the very first scene, I was nervous, uneasy, and enthralled. Javier Bardem's Anton Chigurh was super creepy. The last time I got such chills was when Michael Myers put on that mask.
The best part of the film was the writing. Just like Chigurh, the film was nerve-wracking, smart, and had a dark sense of humor. My favorite quote was when Chigurh was asked by a bystander if he will die, and Chigurh replies, 'That depends. Can you see me?' There were tons of 'oh sh*t' moments, either accompanied with laughs or soiled pants.
A lot of people have blasted the last act. I am still on the fence about it. I was even surprised they threw in a predictable twist. Even a day later, I still could not tell if the last act was genius or an misfired attempt by the Coen brothers to top themselves. Until then, the film is in limbo between very good and great.
I loved the Coen brother's decision to not have any music in the film, a la 'The Birds'. That upped the the film's creepiness another notch. Oddly enough, Carter Burwell was credited for the score. A big boo to my local theater for leaving the doors open during the showing.
Random casting note: I was glad that I didn't recognize Stephen Root, otherwise, I might have lost concentration.
