Thoughts
This was way more fun than I had expected. It felt like a real concert and at the same time not, and I meant that in a good way.
The 3D technology was very well done, from the extreme closeups of each member to the breath-taking shots of the sea of humanity jumping in rhythm. Only the medium shots looked a little awkward, the band was too small to really make an effort to make them completely three-dimensional, so they looked a bit flat.
Two funny moments during my experience. First off, the 3D was so good a girl in the audience nearly fainted when Bono reached out to the camera to caress it. Another funny side effect was that I nearly yelled out to people to sit down, only to realize they were part of the film.
While the 3D was a major selling point of this film, I have never appreciated IMAX acoustics until now. This greatly added to the experience, to hear every instrument clearly and every whoop and holler from the audience around you.
I think even casual U2 fans would greatly enjoy this experience. They were perfect for IMAX, as their sound and scope of their concert filled the entire screen and speaker.
I am interested to see if other music acts follow U2's lead as another way to reach out to their fans.
What I would change
More U2 songs!
