Premise
Many, many years after his last fight, Rocky feels he has one last fight in him.
Who should watch
'Rocky' fans.
Thoughts
A surprisingly good sequel and a fitting end to the franchise.
Sylvester Stallone proves once again that he was an underrated screen writer. The story was realistic, dealing with Stallone's age, and was in the same spirit of the first two films. This was the Rocky character that I cherished and remembered.
Having watched the first four movies, I enjoyed all of Stallone's nods to the legacy. Every little bit made me smile, from the two turtles Rocky keeps, to Bill Conti's score and even Frank Stallone's singing. I was shocked that I even felt a little emotional when Rocky revisits some of the franchise's most famous landmarks.
Speaking of shocking, Mike Tyson's cameo was unexpected, but it was great.
For me, the fight scenes seemed implausible. But that might be just the knowledge that Sly was 60 while filming. I had trouble believing that Rocky was able to accomplish what he did in the ring. Also, I wished that the film makers were able to fit in Talia Shire as Adrian into the story somehow.
I felt a lot of attachment to some of those characters, and was glad to see them get their last hurrah in a dignified way. I am glad Stallone made this final film for Rocky.
What I would change
Nothing.
