Thoughts
It was mostly entertaining fun.
As expected, there was excellent computer graphic animation and fun 3-D scenes. Action scenes were energetic, and well enhanced by the 3-D. I especially enjoyed the battle over the Golden Gate Bridge. What impressed me the most was the details. The dust particles and flying debris were a very nice touch.
I enjoyed the comedy coming from the Insectisaurus and BOB the blob. Also, there were quite a bit of nerd/science fiction/monster/alien jokes, ranging from 'Godzilla' to 'Dr. Strangelove' (which is a strange choice).
The story itself was pretty simple, if not down right lazy. How many people outside of California are going to laugh at Modesto and Fresno jokes? Also, the cast was impressive on paper, but I prefer if they had no name, but true voice actors.
I should have been more patient and waited for 'Up'.
What I would change
Shrunk the first fifteen minutes into one, nobody cares about a marriage gone wrong, get to the monsters already!
