Premise
Part of ESPN's 30 for 30 series, Kirk Fraser revisits Len Bias' death.
Who should watch
All sports fans.
Thoughts
One of the most honest, thorough, and emotional documentaries from this series.
The amazing thing about this film was how honest and forth-coming everyone was during their interview. I admired Brian Tribble, as he was the closest to the tragedy, and in the epicenter of the aftermath. Same goes for the poor parents of Bias.
As a big basketball fan, I'm pretty well-educated on the whole incident. Nevertheless, I still learned a lot. Great job by the film makers to collect a wealth of testimonies, footage and pictures, and organize them into succinct, informative chapters. The quick diversion into how this affected drug laws in America was very interesting.
While it's never fun to watch a shocking, devastating tragedy unfold, there is much to learn. This a a must-watch sports documentary.
What I would change
Call me boring, but was there a need to shoot every interview in a different angle, such that nobody was talking to the camera directly? Also, what's with the money spent on making old pictures into 3D pictures?
