Premise
Part of ESPN's 30 for 30 series, a documentary about Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert's rivalry/friendship, as told by them.
Liked
The interesting conversations and reminiscing between the two tennis legends.
Disliked
Overuse of Natalie Merchant's "Kind & Generous".
Thoughts
I probably would have enjoyed it more if I was a tennis fan.
Their rivalry and mutual admiration of each other felt very similar to Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. Seemed like it was as epic in terms of the tennis world. The most interesting aspect was having only Navratilova and Evert interview. So instead of a distanced history lesson of their professional and personal lives, it was a pretty intimate look into the moments that mattered the most to them.
I know the documentarians wanted to break the monotony of just two people talking for 40 minutes, but the driving and jogging settings were very distracting. You could barely understand what they were saying while jogging, and all I could think was "don't crash!" as they shared some heavy emotional conversations while attempting to drive on winding roads.
What I would change
Not played Natalie Merchant's "Kind & Generous" song, three times during the film. Wow, that was annoying!
