Premise
A shock jock loses his job after a listener goes on a shooting spree. During his downfall, he meets a homeless man who was affected by that tragedy.
Who should watch
Terry Gilliam and Robin Williams fans.
Thoughts
It was good, but not great.
In terms of trippiness, it was rather tame for Terry Gilliam. There was a great scene when a bustling subway station seamlessly transformed into a giant dance hall and back. Unfortunately, like many trippy movies, these demented and wonderful visuals got in the way of the story. It always felt these scenes were there just for the sake of taking the audience on a trip.
Jeff Bridges was excellent portraying a shock jock at his full cockiness as well as vulnerability during his free fall. I thought Mercedes Rhuel did a great job as the loyal, loving girlfriend. As expected, Robin Williams stole the show. The role of an eccentric homeless man was the perfect role for his zaniness. But the big surprise was Amanda Plummer as the homeless man's love interest. She was sooo adorable (in a nerdy way). Watching these four was worth the price of admission.
It was good, but it ain't 'Brazil'.
What I would change
I could have done without the frontal nudity of Robin Williams. That was a bit disturbing.
