The interesting history lesson.
Thoughts
I am not a car racing fan, so I knew nothing about Richmond. After watching this documentary, I was wiser and more appreciative of his place in history.
The film makers did a great job of giving the audience a glimpse of what made Richmond stand out, and a taste of his charm. There was just enough footage to help me get an idea about his skill and personality.
Due to my lack of knowledge, I was floored by the AIDS angle of the tragic story. I loved the insight into the fears, uncertainty and plain ignorance by society at the time. At the beginning of the film, I cheered for Richmond, then I was saddened by the ordeal he, his family and friends had to go through. The documentarians painted a clear picture about the mental and emotional hardships to have that disease at that time.
Like most people, I credited Magic Johnson for educating us about HIV and AIDS. But like most unsung pioneering heroes, and Richmond unfortunately could have taught us so much more earlier on.
What I would change
Nothing.
